it was a law. as senator murray announced today, this year the senate will return to regular order in the budget resolution to the senate floor. the house republicans had to add a gimmick or to today ago that i understand, we all understand the tea party plays a big part in what goes on in the house and they need a gimmick or two to get things done over there. but spare the metaclass another knockdown drag out fight, we are going to proceed to work on this legislation intended out of here as quickly as we can. i went to give credit where credit is due and i think speaker boehner for his leadership in defusing a site over the debt ceiling debate. as i said before, not everything has to be a big fight. this proposal they have in the house is that worth fighting about. so again, i think the speaker for his work in this regard. the metaclass has been telling us they don't want another crisis in this showcase send the security they deserve. senator durbin. >> thank you, mr. leader. america is suffering

do we need a debt limit law? why can't we have those kinds of discussions in this congress ever again? it's as though if we give them time to think about it and everybody has a chance to weigh in on it, then maybe we won't be able to move this the way we'd like to and play another got you game which is really what it comes down to. i don't care if "the washington post" loves it. i think they're pleased that something harry reid said he liked it. not something that's been heard here lately. i don't know what it is. i don't think the rest of my members know what it is. we certainly didn't yesterday in the rules committee. we didn't have the knowledge of those from the process which could have answered the questions that came up yesterday. all of us know where this came from. charles wrote a column in "the washington post." they may like that a whole lot as well. that's where this came from. he said, that's a good idea. instead of going to the committees of the congress of the united states where people of knowledge

to attack a consulate is an act of war under anybody's interpretation of international law. it's an act of war. and when somebody commits an act of war against the united states, gens a u.s. ambassador, against our people -- against a u.s. ambassador, against our people, they need to know there is a commander in chief, or if he doesn't know because he's busy, somebody that will give the order to protect those that were put in that bad situation. our military needs to know that their commander cares. our military needs to know that they are not going to lay down their life for nothing. . this is not the kind of testimony we need. we want the truth. if this is the truth so be it. of course we heard from the doctors after the fall that, gee, it turns out this could be the kind of thing that would result in memory loss. and i'm glad she's well enough to get along. my late mother with a brain tumor had balance problems. we constantly had to be on alert for her falling, maybe tripping over a curb and hurting herself. breaks your heart when you see somebody bruised from falling. so
